Injustice: Gods Among Us

Just when I thought fighting games were dead…they pull me back in. It’s fitting that the creators of Mortal Kombat the first fighting game I ever liked would be the ones to do this. So what is the concept that got me back in the fighting ring? A game in which DC comics superheroes and villains pummel on each other using super powers and weapons! The game play is extremely addicting as it seems to move in surges of momentum. One minute I’m taking Lex Luthor into the sky as Superman and the next moment the match has flipped and Luthor has blasted me across the map with a laser beam. The special moves are all fantastic and easy to trigger; which is nice since some fighting games make triggering specials such a pain. Along with the awesome specials most levels contain transitions that are a joy to trigger and watch. This game really adheres to its comic book source with the fighting moves, costumes and especially the story which seems like a combination of Mark Miller’s Red Son and Justice League stories involving the Crime Syndicate of America (the evil version of the Justice League). They also got Kevin Conroy to do Batman’s voice which always makes a DC game feel authentic. Along with the primary storyline each character has their own ending in a classic arcade mode and they all have mini games called S.T.A.R. Lab missions. These range from really fun to really frustrating but they are an awesome inclusion. Throw in a bunch of unlockables, online play, and tons of special combat modes and you get a pretty good picture of this game. I’m still obsessed with it and it came out in April. If you liked fighting games in the past or you like comic books go out and buy this now! Instead of Bigbluebullfrog Leaps this game gets an intense SHAZAM for it’s rating!
